We survived Halloween and in
this neck of the woods, the weather was just perfect
for it. It felt great to go on such an extended walk
with our children, see the creative pumpkin carvings
and reconnect with our neighbours. Now, we're
donating all of the candy we collected to our local
Food Bank so they can hand it out in their Christmas
baskets. Remember our October issue about sugar
and viruses? Get it out of the house before it gets
you!!
As the weather cools and our
bodies want to go into hibernation mode, regular
exercise becomes more important than ever. You're
probably sitting there thinking, "Yes, I
know, exercise is good for you, blah, blah, blah, I've
heard it a hundred times." So...??? Why
aren't
you doing it? Knowing something in
your mind and applying it in your life are often two
very different things. Many of us don't exercise
because we feel that we don't have time for it; it's
item number 63 on an impossibly long list of "should
dos" for the day. However, the irony is that setting
aside only 30 minutes each day to exercise will give
you huge
energy returns for the rest of your day. You'll work
more efficiently, get more done, and be less stressed
while you're doing it.
Our 13 year-old son is living proof:
he has dropped
30 pounds since June (see the featured
article on
Body For Life). Five months ago, his knees were
so
weak, he couldn't climb a set of stairs without
grasping on to the railing and lurching his body up. It
was truly painful to watch. This summer, he did the
Grouse
Grind in Vancouver with our family - a grueling 2-
kilometer vertical trail up Grouse mountain. A year
ago, this type of activity would have seemed
impossible but the difference in his body in only 12
weeks was astounding. Using regular interval
training of weights and cardio for only 30 minutes
a day, 6 days a week, he developed whole body
strength that allowed him to accomplish this
challenging goal. Now, he has the energy, strength
and confidence to tackle new physical goals on a
regular basis. He is truly a changed person and is a
constant source of inspiration to us, his family!
In this issue, we'll tell you how
fitness legend Jack Lalanne is tackling childhood
obesity in America - at the age of 91! We'll
reveal scientific proof that sitting in our saunas
actually exercises your heart and can
lower the risk of arteriosclerosis. We explore
studies that indicate exercise makes you
smarter and can strengthen your immune system
against viruses like the flu. And, we'll talk about
the second sweatiest workout there is (next to
taking a
sauna) the phenomenon "Hot Yoga".
So get up, move about and keep
that wonderful body you have active - you'll sleep
better, play harder, work more efficiently, smile more
often
and just be a healthier, happier, person!
Until next
month,
Warmest Regards!
Soleil Saunas
